Unhappy Endless scanning (again) with the new Kinoma's update

I was happy because I did not encounter the terrible endless scanning issue with my former version of Kinoma Play....

I was happy today to download the new update...

But, once again, with this new version I have to face the endless scanning process, and therefore cannot use the soft.

How can the former version scan correctly all my files, and not the new version?

Little bit fed up with the Kinoma's scanning problem yet... Will your team finally solve this issue after the numerous complaint on this forum ?

Mine scanned and finished, didnt do an endless loop. However, I did notice that it did take much longer to scan...which is not a problem as I have it set to scan manually not automatically.

EDIT:Subsequent scans were much much quicker!

Did you try downloading the advanced settings which lets you specify what folders get scanned? It's a nice improvement as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed, with the exception that you can't choose subfolders only root folders! Better then nothing however!

It probably can't. We're not seeing any general problems with the scanner, so more likely culprits are either file system corruption or an an intermittent problem with your SD card. (Or both! Flash memory problems can easily cause file system corruption.)

Did I ever point you to this blog post, and if so have you already tried that?

An excellent suggestion! Note that if the problem is file system corruption or some sort of flash memory failure, that app can help avoid the symptom but won't fix the underlying cause.

I'm having the same problem as Rolo. Kinoma play was scanning all of my music successfully before the upgrade, but now I can't get it to complete. It goes fine for a while, then suddenly get stuck on a particular file. I've been moving these problematic MP3s to another folder that isn't scanned, but then it just gets stuck on a different file. I have a 4GB SD card that has my Audiobooks and then a 32GB CF card that has my music library and it's on the CF card that it's getting stuck on files.

just purchased today and i'm seeing the same endless scanning issue. in fact, it's stuck on a file that doesn't exist on my device (i deleted it). thanks in advance for your help.

EDIT: took the looooooong road and hard-reset my device and loaded Kinoma Play and let it scan my files; worked ok this time. yeah!

Since Rolo didn't respond I'm guessing he found the culprit, most likely one of these three things:
  • A corrupted file, fixed by removing or replacing it
  • File system corruption, fixed by following the advice in this blog post
  • An intermittant problem with the SD card, fixed by replacing the SD card

If the problem "moves", my guess is file system corruption. My recommendation is to first follow the backup/format-using-phone/restore advice in that blog post, and then let me know what happens.

Wow, fascinating...I'll have to add that to my "list of things to try". Many thanks for following up!
