Resolved: Orb Update is Out! Ball is now in KINOMA'S court!

The new Orb update is out fixing the 10:05 bug. The first reports I've read indicate the going is not all that smooth though, with Kinoma excessively buffering (like it wasn't ALREADY excessively buffering!)

Looks like the ball is now back in Kinoma's court to make live streaming TV a do-able endeavor on the Treo 700p, instead of a costly exercise in frustration.

wow.
Okay, I guess that was uncalled for. Please accept my apology.

What I >meant< to say, is that there are many unresolved problems with Kinoma. All you need to do is read some of the messages here to see that you may be the only user expressing complete satisfaction with the product.

I have reported not only on TreoCentral but on the Orb forum that there is an issue when trying to stream video/music from Orb. The problem is that Kinoma freezes either a minute after streaming starts or seconds before it ends. When this happens only a reset fixes it. The responses I've read are that I'm not the only one and that TCPMP might be an option to Kinoma. That sucks.

By the way where are the developers or admin?

Hello,

There are currently two "open" issues playing back Windows Media streams delivered from Orb, depending on the content:

1) Kinoma Player 4 EX locks up near the end of the stream
2) Kinoma Player 4 EX repeatedly buffers at about 15 seconds from the end of the stream

The first problem occurs because Orb sends more than one end of stream marker, which unfortunately confuses Kinoma Player 4 EX. The second problem occurs because Orb reports a stream duration which is actually 15 seconds greater than the actual stream duration, causing Kinoma Player 4 EX to re-buffer endlessly waiting for media that will never arrive.

Both problems were reported to Orb Support weeks ago, but we have worked around the problems in Kinoma Player 4 EX. The fixes/workarounds will be available in the next Kinoma Player 4 EX update.

We appreciate your patience. Please let us know if there are any additional Orb issues.

That is exactly what we are experiencing. I'm glad Kinoma is well aware of it and had acknowledged it here so we get some peace of mind.

This is awesome..!! I'm glad I bought Kinoma 4 EX instead of TCPMP I guess we just have to wait until the next update comes out, which I'm guessing should be within the next weeks since it was reported on TreoCentral that it should be ready at the beginning of this year.

Keep up the great work Kinoma and thanks for the reply,

Al

kinoma 4.1 with orb windows media streaming

Just thought I would let anyone know who is interested that after installing kinoma 4.1, using live tv in orb 2.0 with windows media stream, It did NOT work. Same problems. Hopefully orb will be able to fix soon. At lease I can still use 3gp stream.

P.S. Recorded tv or recorded video does work pretty well using the windows media stream. Just not Live TV'
